Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month, and the 2nd is Autism Awareness Day

Autism is a Neurodivergent condition also known as Autism Spectrum Condition (or Autism Spectrum Disorder). It affects the nervous systems (senses), motor skills (movement), and social skills (conversations, etc). However, it is a spectrum, and these things may vary widely. I myself am Autistic (so I have Autism), but I can talk and move just fine. Sometimes I have little quirks that make me different, for example, sometimes I feel like a word is “prickly”, or I don’t realise someone was being sarcastic. I also find big crowds and sometimes just being social quite hard to handle. Whenever someone else says they experience something like I do (you know, like thinking words are prickly), it makes me really happy because then I know I’m not the only one.

Please take some time this month to research the autistic and neurodivergent communities – Ideally, learn one new fact and maybe find a way to help spread awareness, like this post is! (I’d suggest checking out https://autismnz.org.nz/)

Have a good day, and I’d appreciate it if you left a reply!
